Spring is coming, sort of

The weekend beckons over the Bitterroot Mountains
There have been glimpses of spring in the Bitterroot Vallley along with a few backward glances towards winter.

Whew!

Snow fell several days this week (this was Monday morning)

Charles' "new" truck
What a week! We've had snow, rain, sunny days, and chilly nights. We've driven up and down the Bitterroot Valley. And it's been to work, school, and church every day!

Several days this week saw measurable snowfall though none stayed on the ground for long. We appreciate moisture here in whatever form it comes and for as long as we can have it!

Big news for us this week was finalizing the purchase of a 2006 Chevy Silverado for Charles. It only has 18,000 miles on it!  The '95 Lexus he had been driving was showing signs that we'd better find something now than be left with no option later. So, Charles is back to be a 'truck' guy which suits him just fine in the Montana culture!

Another class project done!

Charles' drawing w/ original photo
Class critique in progress
More from the class critique
Charles' drawing made the wall!
The Drawing:figure studio class Charles is in completed another assignment today, "Clothes make the man." The class was supposed to illustrate a clothed figure. Charles' effort involved taking a picture of him (that was taken prior to the 2006 St. Piran's Day dinner at RAF St. Mawgan) wearing a Cornish kilt and rendering it.  It was the best class critique he's had and his drawing even got selected for the class display wall in the hallway!

First Friday fun

Step dancers at the North Valley Public Library
That's some bed!
Valley Drug's grab bag treats!
Each month on "first Friday," downtown Stevensville comes alive with fun, bargains, and people watching. The weather couldn't have been better and we had a lot of fun up and down Main Street.

A special evening in Missoula

Ready for a night out
Garrison Keillor is in the house!
Belinda and Toba chat at the pre-concert reception
The stage is set
Night time over the Clark Fork River
We had a full day in Missoula between classes and the march downtown!

To cap off the evening we took advantage of a donation to PBS in Montana to see Garrison Keillor who is making his farewell tour. We had seen him once before at the Minnesota State Fair and was glad for the chance to see him once more.

March for Hope and Acceptance

Two of the SUMC members present at the rally
We joined more than 900 area residents at a march in Missoula Tuesday afternoon for a march in support of efforts to welcome all refugees into our community. It was exciting to be part of the positive response to the negativity surrounding this issue.

BFA review day
Early stages of Charles' next drawing project
Charles' spring semester is rolling along and Tuesday saw lots of activity on campus that makes being a UM student fun.

He was working on his first markings for his next drawing project and got to see some of the kick-off activities for International Students Month (there are dozens of countries represented in the student body).

Another interesting activity on Tuesday was the BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) Review Day with ten students having submitted work for faculty review for this degree program. There are some really talented people at UM!
