Cooking Up a Great Time -- At Home & Church!

We had a great day today. Belinda made pumpkin spice cookies... and she made up a basket of special goodies bags for visitors to the church this next month (complete with candy canes, popcorn and Kleenex tissues). Then it was off next door for the church-docorating party for the Advent and Christmas seasons. Praise be to God for such a fun-filled day!

(P.S. It is SO WONDERFUL to have our local community news channel 6 back "ON" today!)

Sunny Day in McCamey, Texas!

It is a sunny day here in west Texas. After a delicious lunch at Elena's Mexican Restaurant, we drove by two lovely ladies from the "MOP" (McCamey Operation Pride) -- who were busy planting beautiful pointsettia plants in the community planters around town. God bless them and all they do to make our community more beautiful... for all to enjoy!

Thanksgiving Eve was a warm affair here in San Angelo reaching 83F mid-afternoon. Charles took advantage of the nice weather to play a round of golf at Quicksand Golf Course (in San Angelo).
This evening we went out to eat, celebrating our 13th anniversary. What a journey this has been!

Happy 13th Wedding Anniversary!

Thanks to our family and friends who have wished us a happy wedding anniversary this Wednesday. God has been so good to us!!!

A Great Weekend!

Friday afternoon, Belinda drove to the Midland Staples store, where a wonderful employee named Stephen helped her put the finishing touches on the parish advent devotional booklets.
---------------------------------------------------------------

On Saturday, Belinda baked a big pan of brownies for the "dessert potluck" scheduled to take place after Sunday evening's community thanksgiving worship service.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday was a wonderful rush of church excitement! As always, we had a lively fellowship before the worship service at the Iraan FUMC. We enjoyed worship services at the Iraan and McCamey First United Methodist Churches... and then at the McCamey convalescent center. It was lunch out at Elena's Mexican Restaurant before getting ready for the community thanksgiving worship service. It was the first time that Belinda has ever played in a bell choir. She said it was a lot of fun!

Touring Our New Wellness Center in McCamey!

Belinda welcomed the opportunity to guide a tour of the new Wellness Center here in McCamey this morning. She met with Verla Flading, Alice and Arlene Kephart. All of them took turns pointing out special observances/features in the various photographs that adorn the walls. For two of them, it was their first time to visit the center. It was fun to share their enthusiasm for the "Eddie J. Odom Memorial Gallery," the heated pool and the fitness equipment. We are so blessed to have a place like this near us!
-------------------------------
Charles surprised them at the start of the tour (before he left to attend the weekly Lions Club meeting at Benoits Restaurant). Verla surprised him with a few buttons she had collected for him. He was so happy by this. As he always says, "a day I get a button is a GOOD DAY!"

Wonderful Wednesday in McCamey

Dr. Maggie Rogers visited us in McCamey today. She visits area churches and tells folks about all the great ministries happening at the Methodist Children's Home in Waco. She spoke with the folks attending today's "Badgers for Christ" lunch gathering about dealing with failure and doing your best. It was wonderful to see her again. Her last visit was the February 17th Badgers for Christ lunch gathering.
------------------------
She made Charles' day when she presented him with more buttons for his button collection (which is hovering around the 6,800 mark). It is always a joy to have the chance to visit with her!
------------------------
Tonight's choir practice and bell-choir practice were wonderful (as always)! Be sure to plan on attending this Sunday's Community Thanksgiving Service at the First UMC, beginning at 6:00 p.m. It will be a great time of worship! It's the best way to kick off the holiday season! All are welcome!

Bill's Birthday Dinner Party Tonight!

Some folks gathered at nearby Elena's Restaurant tonight to celebrate Mr. Bill's birthday. The birthday bag read "Aged to Perfection." Birthday candles bedecked his balloon, his button and his special reading glasses! Everyone enjoyed his special celebration! His birthday card said it all!
---------------------------
On this day when you celebrate your birth, you're not the only one who is celebrating! God is rejoicing over your life because you are His special creation. He loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. He knew you would be a blessing to the world... and He was so right!
-----------------
Sharing in the joy of your birthday and thanking God for creating you!
-----------------
The Lord your God is with you... He will take great delight in you... He will rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17 NIV.

Sunday & Monday

We've been busy over the past few days! On Sunday we had the regular schedule of worship in the morning in Iraan and McCamey and at the McCamey Convalescent Center in the afternoon.

Later Sunday afternoon, Charles led a seminar using material from GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays. It was a special event which Charles was able to offer to the community.

On Monday, we went to the Iraan Senior Center for lunch and met a number of FUMC - Iraan members who were also eating there. After lunch, we drove to Rankin where Charles attended his weekly lectionary study. Belinda continued on to Odessa to run some errands.

It has been a busy couple of days and it's only Tuesday!

A Day in San Angelo

It was a chilly start to our day in San Angelo! Fall is definitely in the air, and the first hint of color could be seen in the trees lining Pinto Path (where Belinda's mother lives).

The main agenda item today was attending the San Angelo District ministry celebration at the First UMC (in downtown San Angelo). We had a great time visiting and learning and sharing with folks from around the district. We met a very interesting fellow named the Rev. Jose Valasquez, a retired United Methodist pastor who has served for over 40 years! Like most pastors, he continues to serve in a variety of ways; he is an active member of the First UMC of San Angelo.

After the session, we had an enjoyable gathering at the local Red Lobster with the Lester's and Belinda's mother as we celebrated the sixth anniversary of the Lester's daughter Amy and their son-in-law Nic Gray.

(P.S. It was really fun to see the mural on a building in downtown San Angelo featuring images from the life and times of Elmer Kelton.)

McCamey Badger Football Playoff

McCamey High School Badgers journeyed to San Angelo this evening to take on the Menard High School Yellow Jackets in the Bi-District playoffs. It was a very chilly affair, below 50F at game's end, with a 15-20 mph north wind. The Badgers held on to win, 24-20. Now they advance to the next round of the playoffs!

Career Day at McCamey H.S.

It was career day at McCamey High School and Charles was asked to be one of the presentors. He gave a fifteen minute talk about his educational and vocational work experiences to each class (eighth grade through senior). He was in the Badger Bandroom with the Upton County attorney, Melanie Spratt-Anderson and the County Sherrif, Dan Brown (and one of his deputies, Dusty). It was an interesting experience for Charles!

When the event was over all the presentors gathered in the school library for a wonderful meal. Charles dashed home and gathered Belinda so that she could share the gathering!

Veteran's Day Observance in McCamey

This morning, the McCamey High School held a school assembly in recognition of Veteran's Day. Charles was among the twenty-four veterans who took part in this morning's assembly.

The veterans were introduced individually (and the services/branches in which they served) and given a scarlet carnation. Following remarks about the history of the American Legion in McCamey, a member of the McCamey High School band played Taps on her trumpet. It was a lovely ceremony!

Tomorrow is Veterans Day. Thanks be to God for people who willingly serve their country -- to preserve our liberty! (To see posters for observances in the past, click HERE.)

Beautiful Day in McCamey, Texas!

Charles enjoyed reading his book on the back patio before dinner this evening. What a lovely autumnal day it was today! Yea, God!!!

Letting the Good Times Roll...

What a fun time Belinda had at this week's Bunko Night at the Santa Fe Depot! Praise be to God for friendly folks who come together ... to let the good times roll! Yee-haw!

Tour of the Iraan Hospital

Belinda, her mother Sheila and Charles enjoyed a special tour of the Iraan Hospital that Ms. Wanda Morrow gave them this afternoon. Of course, the tour included a fun stop at their gift shop! Afterwards, they paid a visit to the Alley-Oop Park. (To hear/see more about the park, click on "Alley-Oop Park," and you'll see a short youtube all about it and the museum nearby.) Praise God for another lovely day in His Kingdom!!!
