A somber reminder

The site of so much sorrow
A CU-Boulder student shares his gift
The memories kept coming
Our gift of flowers
So much caring

We took a bouquet of silk flowers down to the King Soopers at Table Mesa, the site of Monday's shooting, to add to the ever-growing outpouring of communal mourning for the victims of Monday's shooting. People of all ages have been coming since Monday to pay their respects and leave tokens of compassion and support for the ten whose lives were taken and to serve as reminder that we are in this period of grief together.

Big news from the studio

Charles had an email on Saturday from the owner of the R Gallery here in Boulder that there was a potential buyer for one of his paintings. Charles took it to the gallery on Tuesday and today got a followup email that the painting, "Kallion kirkon kellosävel" (The Bells of Kallio Church), had sold for $1,250! Of course, Charles had to call to be sure that he had read that right, but the price was correct and the buyer told the gallery they'd be watching for others from RevArtColorado!!!

Today in Boulder

Note: This is the prayer Charles wrote for our church family following the mass shooting today at our local supermarket.

Merciful God, tonight our community grieves with the senseless violence that took place this afternoon at the King Soopers in Table Mesa. We mourn with the families that are struggling tonight to understand, to come to terms with the loss of dreams, hopes, and promises. We struggle to make sense of a world where violence is such an easy option.

Send Your Spirit upon us this night that we would find rest in the sure blanket of Your love. Strengthen us in the days ahead that we might find our voices to speak comfort to those who have been injured, peace to those who are grieving, and love to the community that we call home. We ask these things in the name of the Risen Christ. Amen.

Winter paintings

Finishing touches on Palm Sunday

Dominica Palmarum (Palm Sunday)

In passione et morte Domini
(On the passion and death of the Lord)

Charles made good use of the snowy weather this weekend by putting the finishing touches to two paintings in his series of the Litugical Series. The two paintings, for Palm Sunday and Good Friday used different techniques to convey the emotions of Holy Week.

Two feet and falling

Bobby & Mo are good neighbors!

The big storm was late in arriving yesterday, starting just after noon, but has more than made up for it! By late afternoon on Sunday, we had close to two feet already on the ground with more on the way. Bobby D. and his faithful companion, Mo, came by with a snow blower to help us stay ahead of the cleanup tomorrow afternoon!

Charles whipped up a batch of switch plates this week, inspired by Easter colors.
