Home life

Two from Cornwall
"Is that grass?"

The February thaw has been in full-swing for a couple of weeks and the ourdoor kitty, Patches (or Patch) has enjoyed not needing to put on snow shoes!

Charles got two nice buttons from a friend in Cornwall, Sue Handford, it is so nice to be thought about from such a long distance away!

Playing around @ SUMC

About once a quarter Stevi UMC holds a family games night, complete with food, fun, and fellowship! This time twenty were on hand and what a time we had!!!

a bit of Bayeux

Charles finished a tiny project for the Women in Art class. They were to recreate a scene from the Bayeux Tapestry using embroidery styles. His came from Tituli #41 -- Hoc Est Wadard (Here is Wadard).

Art at PDX

"Semblance" by Whitney Nye
"River Tide" by Jennifer Williams
"Lifeline" by Charles Schweigert
"Wings III" by Barbara Paanakker
"The Secret Cell" by Jeane Myers
While waiting for his delayed flight in Portland, Charles had the chance to check out some cool art on display. Some two dozen works by Oregonian artists made for a pleasant stay in Concourse A!

Portand, Day 4

Newly-formed "Just Love Action Group"
#ToBishopKOwithLove
Closing sermon this morning
Over the Space Needle coming into Seattle
Charles stay in Portland came to a close this morning as the Rise Up! conference came to a close. After a delay at the Portland airport and another longer delay in Seattle, he arrived in Missoula only to discover that his luggage was nowhere to be found! Hopefully it will be on the last flight this evening!

Portland, Day 3

Morning panel discussion
A wee bit of refreshment
Too wet to wait for donuts
Evening action group reports
Charles had a full day at the Rise Up! conference with worship, discussion groups, and lots and lots of networking. A free afternoon compelled him into the city where despite the rain was still nice to get out for a quick quiet time.

Charles was going to make a stop at Voodoo Donuts but the rain convinced him that wasn't the best idea (he did get one though from a member of Icon). Instead of having a donut for lunch, he had a wonderful lunch at Kells Irish Pub which was very nice break from conference food :)

Annointing for service
ICON is on fire!

Portland, Day 2, pt.2

"Don't Shoot" by Arvie Smith
2nd C. BCE (Greek)
"Harriet Tubman"
Alexander Calder
August Rodin
Charles has visited the Portland Art Museum on each of his three visits to Portland and each time has seen something new! On today's visit, he focused on the temporary exhibits, each of which took in an aspect of the art world that was fresh and exciting.

Seen today: Rodin: The Human Experience; Constructing Identity: African-American Art; Restoring Breath (Native American weaving); APEX: paintings by Arvie Smith; Photography and Contemporary Experience.

Portland, Day 2, pt.1

Portland loves its art!
As good as advertised
Oh yeah!
If they don't have it, you don't need it
Charles had time before the start of the conference to take in some of Portland's sights. Using the excellent public transit system, he visited the Portland Art Museum, ate lunch at The Original (featured on "Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives"), and of course made a stop at Powell's City of Books!

Ten years ago...

Ten years ago today we drove away from the Norfolk Navy base and our eight years with the Navy came to an end. Ten years later and we're in the Mountain Time Zone!

Peace in the Valley

Monty (on pillow) & Wesley (in box)
The thaw taking place in the Bitterroot Valley refers to more than just the snow and ice receding. At the parsonage this afternoon Wesley and Monty could be seen hanging out in close proximity without incident! We are thrilled!

Experiments in painting

Scorched paper, white crayon, acrylic paint drops
Paper stained w/ coffee, acrylic, coffee grounds
 smudged acrylic
acrylic, graphite, & shaved charcoal
For the next painting project, the class was to come up with 4-6 different techniques for applying images to paper. Charles' six used everything from coffee grounds, to shaved charcoal, to a blowtorch!

The next step will be to screen print the images before the final application of paint, encaustic, and who knows what else!
