Happy Kalevala Day!

Lemminkäinen Tuonelassa
(Lemminkäinen in Tuonela)
2018, 48x60, oil on canvas

Charles joined with several dozen people from around the country in the Fifth Annual Kalevalathon, a public reading of the entire Kalevala, the national epic poem of Finland.
Charles took part in today's event by reading Rune 25. The event, hosted by Finlandia University (Hancock, Michigan) was a fun way to participate in Charles' cultural identity.

First published in 1835, the Kalevala emerged from the oral tradition of the Finnish people and the epic was a significant contribution to the development of the Finnish identity.

Good morning, Sammy

Sammy has a way of knowing when people are in the building and how to sneak inside to see out how things are going. This morning, he wandered into Charles' office and began checking out a box with some books inside. A short while later, and so was Sammy!

Recurring snow days

We've been getting recurring snow each week for several weeks now. It seems that each Wednesday we get enough snow to blanket our street before the next warming trend which is followed by yet another snowfall.
