Charles is in Portland for a conference this weekend, looking at justice work in the Western Jurisdiction of the UMC.

The thaw taking place in the Bitterroot Valley refers to more than just the snow and ice receding. At the parsonage this afternoon Wesley and Monty could be seen hanging out in close proximity without incident! We are thrilled!

A special night

 The Fourth Annual Valentines Dinner at Stevensville UMC was tonight and what a fun evening it was!

Experiments in painting

For the next painting project, the class was to come up with 4-6 different techniques for applying images to paper. Charles' six used everything from coffee grounds, to shaved charcoal, to a blowtorch! 

The next step will be to screen print the images before the final application of paint, encaustic, and who knows what else!

Class critique underway

The spring semester is underway and on Tuesday Charles' painting class had their first critique of the term.

The assignment was to work in the style of a contemporary artist and offer a narrative. Charles' painting used the work of Angelo Franco who works in a modern pointilist style. The piece used acrylic, encaustic, and liquin on a wood panel and in an abstract manner depicted a 1960s-era pichinko machine!

A bit of snow Friday night was quickly dealt with Saturday morning ahead of a warmer, rainier Saturday evening/Sunday. The rain on top of the snow made for very, very tricky conditions around the Valley. We were told by several folk at the church that they slid through intersections near the church this morning.
