Retirement Party in McCamey

Today was a special day in McCamey, Lou Ann Watson, a member of the First UMC (in McCamey) was retiring after eighteen years working for the city of McCamey. Since Lou Ann was a church member, our mayor (also a FUMC member) asked Charles if he'd be the event's photographer. It was a great time with lots of town residents and other well-wishers on hand.
The slide-show for today's event is at this link or you can look at individual pictures at this link.

Saturday Fun in West Texas

Today was a fun day in west Texas. McCamey's Sacred Heart Catholic Church sponsored their annual Jamaica Festival at Sante Fe Park. The food was delicious. Of course, the weather was hot, but folks were able to find just the right spot under a shade tree. It was a party atmosphere, and it was clearly THE PLACE TO BE today. Tonight a rousing game of Scrabble was enjoyed at the parsonage. Thanks be to God for a fun day in west Texas: Yee-haw!

Out and About!

Yesterday, it was official. Belinda's mother was out and about and in the vertical world once again. It as been eight weeks since her fall and resulting broken and sprained wrists. Now she is ready for almost anything... but first a stop to the local grocery store. Occupational therapy begins next week. Thanks be to God!

Fun Time at Beading Class Yesterday!

Yesterday Belinda and her mother visited the home of Sheri M. who is their beading instructor extraordinaire! They had loads of fun! After the class, they really enjoyed the special treat of homemade snow cones. They were oh, so yummy! (Her mother was sporting "Fourth of July" beaded sunglasses: Very pretty, indeed!)

Good Visit with Belinda's Mother!

Belinda is in San Angelo visiting with her mother. They really had a fun time at the weekly beading class yesterday afternoon at the instructor's home. Afterwards, they enjoyed freshly made snow cones: Yummy! They so appreciated Sheri's gracious and generous hospitality!

Judy & Leon, back on the road again

Our friends from Minnesota, Judy & Leon, headed back out on the road this morning, following a whirl-wind visit in McCamey. We did get a lot of wind and lightning during the night but sadly, not much in the way of moisture. This morning, Belinda took Judy on a tour of the wellness center and other McCamey highlights, while Leon was getting their 'rig' squared away. Blessings to them and their dog Oreo as they travel onwards!

To Odessa and back!

This evening, we took our friends, Judy & Leon, to Odessa for supper at the famous "Barn Door" restaurant. We were joined in Odessa by Bobbie & Bill Lester who were happy to share in the fun with us! The Lester's had studied our blog from our stay at Judy & Leon's cabin in Minnesota a couple of years ago, so it felt as though they knew them as well as we do! After supper, we returned to McCamey, where the Lester's treated everyone to a snowcone. We got to enjoy the dessert while watching a lightning show from a storm taking place near San Angelo (100 miles to our east).

Visitors from Minnesota Here!

So glad that our friends Judy and Leon and their dog Oreo arrived this afternoon! Their truck is pulling an amazing caravan. (The living area expands out ... to make it larger. Wow!)

Staying cool!

We've had a busy few days here in west Texas! While trying to stay cool in the 100+ heat, we've been active indoors getting the parsonage ready for company tonight! Thanks to Jim & Mary Witcher (McCamey FUMC members) for bringing homemade lasagna on Saturday and for homemade banana pudding last night!

Belinda's Beautiful Mama

Belinda is in San Angelo, having a great time with her mama. Belinda took this photo of her this afternoon... after their trip to the weekly beading class at the RCW Clubhouse and a fun visit with their good friend Kathy in her home at RCW. It was a great afternoon! Thanks be to God! (Note: "RCW" is the retirement community where her mother lives. It stands for Rio Concho West.)

Charles visits Stonehenge

Charles was in Odessa this afternoon and as he was leaving town, he spotted "Stonehenge!" Well, a life-size reproduction of the famous stones on the campus of U. Texas - Permian Basin. One never knows what will be seen in west Texas!

Another hot day in McCamey

As Charles was mowing the yard this morning (amazing how fast it grows when we're away for a week), he spotted a horned-frog! He was really tickled!!!
This afternoon we stopped by the Wellness Center where the new plaques for the fountain were up. Bobbie & Bill Lester donated half of the funds needed for the fountain, a real nice feature for the center. We also saw an antique car at the center, looks like a fun ride!

Thursday in Corpus Christi

What a busy day we had today! A full-day of Conference activities made us appreciate the restful evening we had!! We had supper with Jim & Mary Witcher at Landry's and then enjoyed watching some people watching in the marina area. A good day on Texas' Gulf coast!
