Sunday morning

Charles makes an announcement
Belinda helps with the Church School each week

Our Sundays revolve around church activities and this week was no different! Church school, worship, and a potluck made for a wonderful day!

National Shelter Pet Day

"Flawed Dogs" by Berkley Breathed.
"So in this world
Of the simple and odd,
The bent and plain,
The unbalanced bod,
The imperfect people
And differently pawed,
Some live without love . . .
That's how they're flawed."

Interesting day on campus

Charles & Alyssa Milano!
Getting out the vote effort @ UM
"Night Watch"

With the semester winding down, there are still some things to do and events to attend.

Charles happened upon a campaign event at the University for Rob Quist, a Democrat running for Congress. Charles didn't get to stick around for the candidate's appearance, but he did meet Alyssa Milano who is in town as part of the campaign's get-out-the-vote effort.

The rest of his day was given to a quiz in African Art, some research in Women & Art, and another painting completed.

The painting project, Night Watch, incorporates the assignment's three requirements: a surface that is 18"x18," includes a raven, and have some aspect that is printed. Charles used nine 6"x6"  wood  panels and screen printed the raven directly onto the wood surface.

Happy birthday, dad!

Jim & Jean Alkula
Today would have been the 90th birthday for Charles' dad, Jim Alkula. His dad died in 1991, one month after of his 64th birthday.

Back in Bozeman

Charles has been in Bozeman attending the Board of Ordained Ministry interviews for clergy seeking ordination by the Yellowstone Conference.

Tonight, following the interviews, the board and those interviewed went out to eat at a hip Asian fusion restaurant on Main Street. The music was loud but the food (Charles had curry duck) was fabulous!

Were we that young?

A friend from our time at Winside (Nebraska) UMC, 1997-1999, post this photo of Belinda & Charles with Chris Hansen. This would have been shortly before we left for the Navy as Charles had already shaved his beard!

Deer Lodge, pt.6 - "Cottonwood City"

Next to the Frontier Museum is "Cottonwood City," an assortment of old buildings relocated to this site from elsewhere in the county.

Deer Lodge, pt.5 - WWII Museum

In a the back of the Pioneer Museum is a room dedicated to WWII items. Small, but interesting to look through.

Deer Lodge, pt. 4 - Frontier Museum

Across the street from the Prison/Auto museums is the Frontier Museum, a small museum dedicated to the pioneers of Montana. Items from Buffalo Bill, Custer, and many more legends are to be found here.

Deer Lodge, pt. 3 - Auto Museum

A replica of a 1886 Benz
For Belinda, a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible
For Charles, a 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible

1928 REO Speedwagon
Part of the complex of museums in Deer Lodge is a collection of cars and trucks dating back to the very earliest models.  Quite the journey back in time even for non-car guys such as Charles!

Deer Lodge - pt. 2 - Montana Territorial Prison

The Law Enforcement Museum's tribute to the fallen
The 1912 cell block
"The Yard"

Spartan quarters
Just a few blocks from the Grant-Kohrs Ranch was Montana's Territorial Prison.

Deer Lodge - pt.1 - Grant-Kohrs Ranch NHS

On his way to Bozeman for a clergy meeting, Charles had time to stop by Deer Lodge and take in some of the historic sites. First up was the Grant-Kohrs Ranch, a reminder of when cattle was king in Montana!

Amazing work on display

Charles attended two gallery openings this afternoon for the sixteen Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) senior students. He'll be one of those exhibiting next year if all goes well!

A wet day in Missoula

Up close with the African art class
Painting studio critique
"Paris is Burning" completed
It was a nice day on campus, rainy, but a good day to paint and learn more about African art!
