A hot day in McCamey

With the temperature cooling down this evening (currently at 95F), we are gearing down after a busy, hot day in west Texas. There is a lot of activity in McCamey. It looks like the work has begun on the Veterans' Memorial, which will be a nice addition to the community when it is finished.

This afternoon, Charles spent time supporting the Lions Club's annual "broom" sale. He enjoyed spending time meeting residents who came by the post office for their mail and then stayed for some shopping. (We don't get home delivery in McCamey.) The gentleman who was in charge of the event had a pet African Grey parrot who kept everyone entertained.

A full day in McCamey!

A full day was in store for us here in west Texas! With meetings and school activities, church events and more, there was something for everyone today!
This evening, we took part in the annual ice cream social for the soon-to-be graduates of McCamey High School. Charles read to the students Dr. Seuss' "Oh, the places you will go!" which was a hit with everyone!

We are enjoying some "cool" evenings this week and are really enjoying our back garden as a result. Charles picked up some BBQ in Iraan yesterday and we savored every bite tonight during our supper!

Cardinal Visits!

A sweet cardinal paid us a visit today! Yea, God!!!

Today in McCamey & Iraan

We had our typical busy Sunday, and boy, are we tired! To see what we've been up to today, visit the FUMC - Iraan or FUMC - McCamey blogs.
After we were finished for the day, Charles got to savor watching our favorite English Premier League (football as it is called over there, or soccer over here) rally from a 0-2 half-time deficet to win against West Ham, 3-2!

And the results are...

We had a wonderful gathering tonight as we waited for the results of the elections taking place in McCamey. It was lots of fun, sixteen folk turned out on short notice to share in the impromptu gathering for Dollie Lynch (a First UMC member) who was running for hospital board, and Charles, a candidate for school board.
In the unofficial results, Dollie ended up in third place, one vote shy of the next candidate. Charles also ended up one vote short, not bad for his first time on a ballot!

A civic celebration!

In honor of today's elections in McCamey, an impromptu celebration is being planned at the First UMC fellowship hall. Charles (running for school board) and a FUMC member, Dollie Lynch (hospital board) are part of the FUMC family and win or loose, it is exciting to be able to participate!
