Starting the show were six corps from the Open Class Corps (of Drum Corps International), these are corps that tend to be smaller or are new to the competitive circuit.
The Open Class corps were (in order of their score): Pioneer (Milwaukee, WI) 67.25; Genesis (Edinburg, TX) 68.3; Mandarins (Sacramento, CA) 72.8; Pacific Crest (Diamond Bar, CA) 74.15; Teal Sound (Jacksonville, FL) 74.45; Crossmen (San Antonio, TX) 77.0
