A tribute



Last Saturday Charles was spending some time picking up litter along highway south of McCamey. He spotted a faded wooden cross off to one side and went to take a look. A marker at the base of the cross had this inscription:


Upton County Deputy Jerry Austin Register killed at this location in the line of duty. July 2, 1989




Charles decided to come back to clean up the roadside marker and today did just that. He cleared away brush from around the marker, repainted the cross, and then placed a dozen silk roses in the in-ground vases. While we didn't know Deputy Register, it seemed the right thing to do was to honor a brave man.
