Charles enjoyed a pretty sunrise this morning in McCamey before heading to San Angelo to meet up with Belinda and her mother. We went to do some shopping in the historic area of San Angelo including a stop at the famous Eggemeyer's store. There is something for everyone there, Charles and Sheila enjoyed sampling some specialty coffee, Belinda enjoyed the coffee's aroma!

Creative Problem Solving
Don’t wallow in self-pity. As soon as you face a challenge get busy finding a solution. Don’t let the setbacks affect your mood; instead see each new obstacle you face as an opportunity to make a positive change. Learn to trust your gut instincts – it’s almost always right.
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His Purpose for them.”
Romans 8:28 – New Living Translation

A treat from start to finish
We had a nice day here in west Texas, hope you did too! We started out the day in Iraan, where we enjoyed the fare at the monthly potluck breakfast at the First UMC. One of the ladies, Deanna Jordan, made a delicious breakfast dessert! What a great way to start the day! When we got back from the McCamey Convalescent Center service this afternoon, Belinda spotted the roadrunner that has been hanging around the parsonage. It was a real treat to end our day this way!

Friday Night Lights
The football season got underway tonight here in McCamey, and Charles took these action pictures at Badger Stadium. The McCamey Badgers fell to the Forsan Buffalos 34-14, although they really held Forsan close until late in the fourth quarter. It was nice to see so many people we knew. After all, this is the second season of Badger football for us!
The roadrunner returns!

It rained!
The Texas Sage, or "Barometer bush" is said to be predictor of rain. The bright purple blossoms in our backyard this afternoon were on the money when a heavy (if all-to-brief) rain blew into McCamey. What a treat, in whatever amount it comes!

Early morning visitor
Early this morning, Charles heard some tapping on the window above the kitchen sink. Birds sometimes get on the window ledge so he didn't think much of it. When the sound continued, Charles looked at there was a roadrunner pecking at the glass. By the time Charles got the camera, the bird was on the wall by the pecan tree. It was a really cool way to start the day.

"Meet the Badgers"
Today was the first day of school here in McCamey. This evening, some in the community gathered at the high school football stadium to "meet the Badgers." We were introduced to the students involved in "the Badger Band," the girl's volleyball & cross-country teams, the cheerleading squad and the junior varsity & varsity football teams, along with their coaches and their families.

From McCamey to Mason and Back
While Charles tended to the homefront today, Belinda accompanied Bobbie and Bill Lester on a trip to Mason, where they attended the funeral of Edna Earl Benton, sister of our beloved Theodora Matthews of McCamey.
Their travels took them through London (Texas, that is)... "pip, pip!"
They enjoyed spending time with Theodora and some of her family and friends before the service at a local restaurant. The service for her sister was wonderful. Belinda enjoyed getting to know about Edna Earl Benton through the sharing of fond memories of her families and friends. God's love shined through her. Thanks be to God for the gift of this fine lady to all who knew her!!!
On the way home, we stopped by for a quick visit with Bill's brother who lives in Eldorado. Belinda really enjoyed the warm hospitality that he extended to them, which included the offering of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies!
All in all, today's road trip was a very good day!

We had a nice drive back to McCamey after our overnight trip to Junction and San Angelo. This evening we went with our church family here in McCamey for a meal at a local eatery. The door prize we presented (donated by the Lester's, couple from the church) was a six-pack from the Dr. Pepper folk in Dublin, Texas. Really a treat if you're ever down this way!

On the road in west Texas
Nowhere other than in Texas would you drive 175 miles for a picnic!
That's what we did this afternoon as we drove from McCamey to Junction for the San Angelo District Clergy Picnic. This is an annual event to welcome new pastors and their families to the district and to celebrate the return of former pastors and their families.
We were busy in McCamey this morning, Belinda at the church and Charles at the convalescent center. Charles spotted a beautiful white flower as he walked the 1/2 mile to the convalescent center. It is amazing that anything is still growing with the lack of rain and the heat!
Tonight we're in San Angelo with Belinda's mother. In the morning, we'll head back home to get ready for a busy weekend!
