Friday evening/Saturday morning

Yesterday evening at the Aitkin United Methodist Church, a reception was held for Ed Dallas, a bicycle rider who was raising awareness for an eccumenical ministry called "Mobile Ministry." This effort reaches those in isolated communities in Minnesota and is led by Pastor Ruth (who leads two UM churches along the Canadian border). Ed stopped in Aitkin after a day's ride of more than eighty-nine miles (in a strong wind all day long) and shared with an appreciative group the need to reach out to people where they are, when they need someone from a faith community.

This morning, we visited the Westside Community Church (in Aitkin) which was having a church-wide rummage sale. We got some delicous looking bars and a jar of home-made applesauce!

Then it was just down the street to the Jaques Art Center for their opening of "What's So Funny?" a show about cartoons and animation: Very funny stuff!

It is a beautiful day here in Minnesota, 55F when we got up, very civilized!!! The leaves are starting to show the first hint of autumn, which is a most welcome sight for us after the heat of west Texas earlier this summer!
